Photography

For your New Baby Announcement Card you will need to provide us with a photograph of your baby. This section will give you some tips on taking photographs of your baby for use on your card. A well taken photograph can really make your baby card come to life and make the perfect keepsake.

Camera Settings & Lighting
To begin with, it is important that you have your camera set up to a highest resolution possible. This will help in keeping your image crisp and sharp. Also consider the lighting before taking your photograph. Daylight can be the best source of light but be careful not to take with direct sunlight behind the subject. It is also best to try and avoid using your flash, as this can create harsh shadows.

Backgrounds
Try and keep the background simple and uncluttered. We want to focus purely on your baby, so get in close to your babies beautiful features. The main focus should be your babies face, fill the image so that barley any background is visible. Placing your baby on a towel or sheet can make the perfect background. Avoid taking a picture of your baby by looking down at him or her. Get down to their level and look directly at them. Your baby doesn’t necessarily have to be awake, sleeping babies can make great images!

If you are using a professionally taken image, please seek permission of the photographer first before sending us the image. If scanning an image, make sure it is set at 300 dpi and save either as a jpeg. or tiff. If we have any concerns about the photograph you send over, we will contact you with some pointers and suggestions, but we hope this information will help get the desired result!

Sending us your photos
Please email your photograph’s as either jpeg. or tiff. files, without any compression to hello@newbabycards.co.uk. Please include your name, name or your baby and any details you want placing on, like date of birth, weight etc. Please also supply us with a delivery address for the cards once printed. If you cannot decide which photo to use, you can send more than one and we can see which will fit best into your chosen design. Please also confirm if you would like your photograph in full colour or black and white, bearing in mind that many of our designs work best in black and white.
